| 10:04 pm Home from OVFF as of last night.
Con was awesome -- I did not win the Pegasus but I almost don't care, because I gave a kickass performance of "Gabriel Gray's Song" and got to rake in the praise of my peers and my idols all weekend. Plus also got to perform "Creatures of Dream" while Luke Ski was in the circle to hear it, which I've wanted to do pretty much since I wrote it.
Con was also, in a different way, very good for our general mental/emotional well-being right now. As Alex has said: this is the con that saved our sanity in October of 2001, and it's done it again this year. To all those who offered comfort and/or distraction and/or just being there: thank you.
What con was not good for was catching up on friendslist. I'm at skip=200 right now and that only takes me back as far as Friday morning, and I was already behind on Friday morning. So if there's anything important that I missed last week, please drop me a note and link me to it?

| 05:59 pm Have fallen behind on friendslist, and am about to fall behind even further as we're off to OVFF in just under an hour.
There are no words in Elvish, Entish or the tongues of Men for how much I need this con right now.
All my dear ones who will be there: I'll see you soon.

| 08:58 pm There isn't any easier way to say this.
We lost the baby. Yesterday morning.
To forestall the likeliest questions: * We're both about as close to okay as it's possible to be under the circumstances. * This is not private. Please don't hesitate to tell anyone who you feel should know. * Currently we are still planning to attend OVFF at the end of the month.
I'm not disabling comments but I may or may not be answering them. Current Mood: blank

| 06:05 pm So since I have been flaky about responding individually: thank you, thank you to all of you who posted good wishes in my last entry. (And, for that matter, to all of you who posted congratulations about the nomination in August.)
Also, for those of you who are accustomed to look for me on the internets at night and on weekends: just a reminder that I won't be around this Saturday night and Sunday, or next. The last of the autumn holidays, Sukkot, starts tonight. (I will be around Sunday evening, both this week and next.)
Happy holidays to all my coreligionists, and happy everydays to everybody else. :)

| 06:15 pm Tonight is the first night of Rosh Hashanah.
As usual: in prosaic terms, this means I won't be around between now and Sunday night. (Next week is normal; the following week I'll be gone from sunset Sunday until a few hours after nightfall Monday. Schedule for after that will follow, but essentially it's going to consist of a couple of missing Saturday-night-through Sundays.)
In slightly less prosaic terms: this seems as good a time as any to let people know that at least one of the things I was praying for this time last year is on its way to coming true.
sdelmonte and I are expecting our first child in March of 2010.
This is the time of year for introspection and self-evaluation. And, where necessary, self-correction.
This is the time of year when the fate of the world, and the fates of all individuals therein, is written and sealed for the coming year. We say in the liturgy: how many will perish, and how many will be created.
Please God. Please, God.
May it be a good and a blessed year for all of us.

| 07:35 pm - Memeish thing From infiniteviking: When you see this, post a random quirky Middleman exclamation in your lj.
"Ghosts of the living!" -- My favorite so far precisely because
it's unclear whether he means it as an exclamation or just a description of what's going on.
Why do I not have a Middleman icon yet?

| 02:55 pm So I've been seeing this RP meme going around, and heck, why not.
PICK ONE OF MY RP CHARACTERS AND I WILL TELL YOU: → why I decided to play this character → my favorite scene or bit of interaction concerning this character to date → my favorite original aspect about this character (world-building for OCs or head-canon for FCs) → the last thing they did "off screen" → what their last words would be if they died tomorrow → what the next thing I'm doing for them is (narrative, post, shelving, whatever)
BONUS ROUND: » I will tell you what character of yours I'd like to play mine against » you may ask me a free question
This applies to any character I've ever played, live-action or tabletop or text-based.
And for the benefit of those I have never RPed with -- pick a character you know I like, from any canon whether visual or written, and I'll provide similar answers. Or as similar as I can manage.

| 08:12 am - in brief So um guess what. :D
1. I saw Andrew Bird live last night at Radio City Music Hall (with bookelfe. Oh em gee, you guys. SO GOOD. agonistes, I owe you.
2. sdelmonte and I are going to Concertino this weekend after all!
3. This: If there is one person or more on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

| 06:12 pm - to blog of many things Well, two things. Thing the first: sdelmonte and I are safely home from Boston. It was a lovely weekend, full of good friends and fun things, and I'm really glad we went. Thanks again to our hosts and to the folks who came around to meet us!
Thing the second: boosting the signal. The fabulous S.J. Tucker is giving a house concert at the home of ladymondegreen and akawil in Jersey City on the evening June 3rd! Details and RSVP space here. Those of you who are in the area, or who can get to the area -- plan to be there. Seriously. It's gonna be awesome. (Sadly I won't be able to attend. But don't let that stop you! I need lots of people I know to experience it so I can get my vicarious thrills afterwards!)

| 08:28 pm - Boston, part 2 of ... some number So, yeah, Operation Wittenbergs Visit Boston is a go. For those of you who expressed interest earlier (or who missed it but are interested now), we're looking at a two-part thing on Sunday.
PART THE FIRST: Apparently there's a street performer festival that weekend at Faneuil Hall Market Place, and we can't miss that. So that's where we're figuring on going first, early afternoon; figure oneish. We're planning on bringing a picnic lunch of some kind. So who wants to meet and hang out with us there, and/or suggest somewhere else local to go if we all get bored with buskers?
PART THE SECOND: Our delightful hosts gnomi and mabfan have clued us in to the local kosher restaurants, and we like the look of Taam China in Brookline. Once we have an idea how many people we are, we'll make a reservation for six-thirtyish or sevenish. So who wants to have dinner with us and hang out into the evening?
Does anybody have any questions? Any answers? Would anyone care for a mint?

May 16th, 2009
| 10:18 pm So hey, Boston-dwelling types?
It looks like sdelmonte and I are going to be spending Memorial Day Weekend in your town.
Anyone want to meet up on Sunday?

| 11:13 am So for those of you playing the "Where's Batya?" home game: I'm visiting agonistes and silveraspen and vivien529 in Denver this weekend. Came in obscenely late last night, crashed for about four or five hours, and am inexplicably wide awake now.
Anyway, this means my online presence will be less than usual Saturday and Sunday night -- hopefully not entirely nil, though.
omg you guys I am ACTUALLY HERE. :D!!!!!
