| 12:57 am - and that ficlet thinger My first ever Battlestar Galactica fic. Set about a week after 4x14, "Blood On The Scales"; inspired heavily by the "Face of the Enemy" webisodes.

| 11:50 pm - that bit of SPN meta Promised I would post, this, so:
Okay. The four archangels, traditionally, are Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael. In SPN Uriel doesn't seem to be an archangel, but never mind that for the moment.
( SPN meta behind the cut, inspired by and spoilery through episode 5x08, 'Changing Channels.' )
Hmmmmmm.

| 11:03 am - Coupla things There's this meme that's going around. There's also the list of Books I Read In 2009.
I will do them BOTH AT ONCE. Because that is how I roll.
There's also a bit of SPN meta I keep meaning to post and haven't, and a BSG ficlet I keep meaning to post and haven't, but those will be separate.
THE MEME: Ask Me Anything! Taken from all over, wording slightly adjusted.
Basically, if there is anything you are curious to know about me because you are new around here/are old around here but feel like you should already have known it/have never gotten around to asking despite the fact that you know multitudinous other details of my life like what I eat for breakfast every morning, today is a day to ask it. (It does not have to be RL stuff necessarily! Fannish questions are fun too.)
I will not be offended by anything you ask but I fully retain the right to not answer questions, because sometimes I do like being a woman of mystery (and also, some things are none of your business even if I love you). Alternately, I may screen answers if for whatever reason I do not feel comfortable sharing them with the-internet-at-large.
THE BOOK LIST: ( Cut because even people who love to read don't necessarily love to read a long list of books I read in 2009. )
That's 25 fewer books than I read in 2008. Maybe I should start keeping track of page count, too.

| 01:56 pm Home from Denver. Had a fantastic time, saw lots of awesome people including some I was meeting for the first time, learned to play Rinky Dink while contact-drunk, and discovered the truth about the most important clown statue of all.
And, as is to be expected, my pants are bankrupt about as far back as noonish Friday. I'm hoping to catch up some this afternoon, but, well, we shall see.

| 11:29 am - o hai So I meant to make the travel announcement post from the airport last night and didn't.
HI FROM DENVER. :D sdelmonte and I are chilling in silveraspen's sunroom as I type this. We're here until we take the red-eye back to NY Sunday night / Monday morning.
I am thus going to be around online less than usual this weekend, though will still be checking email periodically and such. I'm also way behind on friendslist -- taking some time now to try to catch up, but I'm at skip=120 and will probably be slow to get through it all. Just so you know.
Also there is so much stuff I need to post about, like my Books Read In 2009 list and having finished Battlestar Galactica and seen Avatar and the final Tennant episode of Doctor Who and omgwtf Dollhouse. Soon!

| 01:28 pm - Meme: 2009 in review The most important things that happened this year, good and bad, aren't the ones in the posts linked below. But a year's made up of everything that happens, not just the major events; and with that in mind, here's the review of 2009 as seen through public posts in this journal.
January: "Ganked from patrickat: an icon-meme!" February: "Am home from Conflikt. Am too sleepy to make wordstuff. Challah at you later." March: "A brief movie review and a meme" April: "Tonight is the first night of Pesach. Zman cherutenu; the time of our liberation." May: "So hey, Boston-dwelling types?" June: "So um guess what. :D" July: "So I've been seeing this RP meme going around, and heck, why not." August: "Memeish thing" September: "Tonight is the first night of Rosh Hashanah." October: "So since I have been flaky about responding individually..." November: December: "You know what's fun to do when you're snowed in? Bake stuff."
It's 2010. After hearing about this last night, I have declared 2010 to be the Year of the Improbable Success.
Here's hoping.

I love you, Grandma.
Miss you so much.

December 25th, 2009
| 01:51 pm Just so everybody's aware:
My grandmother in New Orleans is seriously ill. (I will not say dying. Others have.)
My parents are already there; I'm flying down Saturday night and will be there through Monday morning. I may be around online some during that time, but don't expect to see me much.
Any prayers and good thoughts are appreciated. Current Mood: scared

| 03:43 pm You know what's fun to do when you're snowed in? Bake stuff.
I promised a couple of people these recipes, so here they are. Both come from the Grain-Free Gourmet cookbook. (Find out more about it here!) I got this cookbook as a gift from a friend when I started the South Beach Diet, as a lot of the grain-free stuff in here is also low in carbohydrates.
( Basic Bread )
( Sesame-Dijon Crackers )
Enjoy!
Edited to add: I tried the Basic Biscuits today also, using margarine instead of butter, and they are delish.

| 10:04 pm Home from OVFF as of last night.
Con was awesome -- I did not win the Pegasus but I almost don't care, because I gave a kickass performance of "Gabriel Gray's Song" and got to rake in the praise of my peers and my idols all weekend. Plus also got to perform "Creatures of Dream" while Luke Ski was in the circle to hear it, which I've wanted to do pretty much since I wrote it.
Con was also, in a different way, very good for our general mental/emotional well-being right now. As Alex has said: this is the con that saved our sanity in October of 2001, and it's done it again this year. To all those who offered comfort and/or distraction and/or just being there: thank you.
What con was not good for was catching up on friendslist. I'm at skip=200 right now and that only takes me back as far as Friday morning, and I was already behind on Friday morning. So if there's anything important that I missed last week, please drop me a note and link me to it?

October 22nd, 2009
| 05:59 pm Have fallen behind on friendslist, and am about to fall behind even further as we're off to OVFF in just under an hour.
There are no words in Elvish, Entish or the tongues of Men for how much I need this con right now.
All my dear ones who will be there: I'll see you soon.

| 08:58 pm There isn't any easier way to say this.
We lost the baby. Yesterday morning.
To forestall the likeliest questions: * We're both about as close to okay as it's possible to be under the circumstances. * This is not private. Please don't hesitate to tell anyone who you feel should know. * Currently we are still planning to attend OVFF at the end of the month.
I'm not disabling comments but I may or may not be answering them. Current Mood: blank

October 2nd, 2009
| 06:05 pm So since I have been flaky about responding individually: thank you, thank you to all of you who posted good wishes in my last entry. (And, for that matter, to all of you who posted congratulations about the nomination in August.)
Also, for those of you who are accustomed to look for me on the internets at night and on weekends: just a reminder that I won't be around this Saturday night and Sunday, or next. The last of the autumn holidays, Sukkot, starts tonight. (I will be around Sunday evening, both this week and next.)
Happy holidays to all my coreligionists, and happy everydays to everybody else. :)

September 18th, 2009
| 06:15 pm Tonight is the first night of Rosh Hashanah.
As usual: in prosaic terms, this means I won't be around between now and Sunday night. (Next week is normal; the following week I'll be gone from sunset Sunday until a few hours after nightfall Monday. Schedule for after that will follow, but essentially it's going to consist of a couple of missing Saturday-night-through Sundays.)
In slightly less prosaic terms: this seems as good a time as any to let people know that at least one of the things I was praying for this time last year is on its way to coming true.
sdelmonte and I are expecting our first child in March of 2010.
This is the time of year for introspection and self-evaluation. And, where necessary, self-correction.
This is the time of year when the fate of the world, and the fates of all individuals therein, is written and sealed for the coming year. We say in the liturgy: how many will perish, and how many will be created.
Please God. Please, God.
May it be a good and a blessed year for all of us.

| 07:35 pm - Memeish thing From infiniteviking: When you see this, post a random quirky Middleman exclamation in your lj.
"Ghosts of the living!" -- My favorite so far precisely because
it's unclear whether he means it as an exclamation or just a description of what's going on.
Why do I not have a Middleman icon yet?

| 10:15 pm - Filkers, save the date! Alex and I will be hosting a housefilk on Sunday, August 2 from approximately 1 to 5 pm. We will post the usual details about where we are and how to get there closer to the date.
More to come...

July 3rd, 2009
| 02:55 pm So I've been seeing this RP meme going around, and heck, why not.
PICK ONE OF MY RP CHARACTERS AND I WILL TELL YOU: → why I decided to play this character → my favorite scene or bit of interaction concerning this character to date → my favorite original aspect about this character (world-building for OCs or head-canon for FCs) → the last thing they did "off screen" → what their last words would be if they died tomorrow → what the next thing I'm doing for them is (narrative, post, shelving, whatever)
BONUS ROUND: » I will tell you what character of yours I'd like to play mine against » you may ask me a free question
This applies to any character I've ever played, live-action or tabletop or text-based.
And for the benefit of those I have never RPed with -- pick a character you know I like, from any canon whether visual or written, and I'll provide similar answers. Or as similar as I can manage.
